Thomas P. Anderson, President/Civil Engineer
Tom is a Civil Engineer and has owned and managed Water Design, Inc since 1997. He is very involved in the design and engineering of water features; from residential water features, backyard pools, and pools for residential housing projects to public use competition, recreational, and resort type aquatic facilities throughout the country. Tom has been involved in the design of close to 2,000 pools over the past six years alone. He is not only a designer, but has received an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification as well. Tom is renowned for working especially well with facility owners, recreation departments, architects, developers, contractors, public officials, building and health departments, and maintenance personnel to provide the project owners with the best designs available.
Tom is heavily involved in developing and updating of swimming pool codes at both the county and state levels. This has allowed him to help facilitate positive health code changes for the aquatic industry. He is the past chairman of the Utah State Swimming Pool Advisory Committee as well as a past member of the Salt Lake County Board of Health. Tom is also involved in many national trade associations including the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He has also served on the APSP Southwest Region Board which covers many of the western states. Tom serves as guest lecturer for industry organizations around the country. He has also acted as an expert witness for industry related court cases.
Prior to gaining his engineering experience Tom has worked for one of the largest construction companies in the intermountain west region which has allowed him to understand how large scope projects are organized and built. This knowledge allows Tom to develop creative design solutions while at the same time understanding the importance of project budgets, schedules, construction feasibility and logistics.
