At over 107,000 square feet, the J.L. Sorensen Recreation Center is the Salt Lake County’s largest recreation center. Planned to be a flag-ship facility for the rapidly growing Southwest portion of the Salt Lake Valley, the Center includes a full array of recreational and wellness amenities. Sustainability issues guided the building design and selection of materials and systems. The project has obtained a Gold LEED Certification.
The aquatic portion of the facility includes an 8-lane competition pool constructed from PVC coated stainless steel technology. The pool is fully ADA accessbile, with large stair area and has 1 and 3 meter diving boards. There is a state of the art timing system with LED display and stadium seating, making it an elite competitive venue.
The adjacent activity pool is also constructed with PVC coated stainless steel technology and has a padded zero entry. The large, elevated play structure hosts numerous interactive features and a large dumping wheel. The zero entry is adorned with ground sprays, tricky bell feature and a clown fish children’s slide. The large water slide is surrounded by the lazy river with vortex pool. There are 3 lap lanes with a lily pad water walk feature.
