California State Maritime Academy Physical Fitness Center, Vallejo, California

This project is part of the new recreation facility for the Cal-State Maritime Academy.  It includes ad 50 meter x 25 yard combination training/ competition/recreation pool.  Specifically designed for multiple uses, the 12,456 square foot, fully ADA accessible pool has a deck level overflow gutter system with hand hold and parallel grating.  It has water depths from 3’-6” to 13’-3” with  8 - 50 meter lanes and 18 - 25 yard lanes, allowing for a wide variety of swim competition.  The pool is also designed for collegiate level men's and women's water polo, and provides 2 locations for practice fields of play that meet the USA Water Polo regulations.  There are 2 - 1 meter diving boards that allow for training exercises, competitive and recreational diving as well as a 3 meter platform that can be used for recreational diving when not being utilized by the survival training programs.

The elevated spectator seating is situated to provide access to the 3 meter platform. With the academy's unique academic offerings, survival training is an integral part of the pool design.  The 3 meter platform will contain a hoist/davit system for body extraction and to assist with extraction of training rafts from the pool after training is completed.   The pool will be equipped with provisions for the future installation of a wave ball wave generation system that will provide waves intended to simulate a natural ocean environment.   The wave generation system will require a temporary, removable freeboard system  designed to contain the waves generation and allow for wave reflection.
